Finding out you won a 4D prize should be a happy moment. But imagine discovering an old ticket in your wallet, checking the numbers and realising you won—only to find that the claim deadline has passed.
Winning tickets do not stay valid forever. Sports Toto, Magnum and Da Ma Cai have claim deadlines, and they are not all the same. Unclaimed prize money does not simply wait indefinitely for its winner to turn up.

How Long Do You Have to Claim a 4D Prize?
The operators publish the following claim periods:
| Operator | Published claim period |
|---|---|
| Sports Toto | Within 6 months of the winning draw date |
| Magnum | 6 months less one day |
| Da Ma Cai | Within 3 months of the draw date |
Sources: Sports Toto FAQ, Magnum prize claim information and Da Ma Cai prize claim information.
Da Ma Cai’s three-month deadline is especially important to remember. Assuming every operator gives you around half a year could leave you too late. Magnum also specifically states “6 months less one day”, rather than a full six months.

What Happens to Unclaimed Prize Money?
Sports Toto gives a clear answer: prizes left unclaimed after six months are forwarded to the Ministry of Finance and can no longer be claimed. Finding the ticket afterwards does not restore the expired claim.
This also means the transfer to the ministry is not an alternative route for collecting the money.
The Magnum and Da Ma Cai claim pages cited above state their deadlines but do not explain where expired prizes go. Sports Toto’s arrangement should therefore not automatically be applied to the other two operators.

Keeping the Ticket Does Not Keep the Prize Valid Forever
“But I still have the original ticket, and the numbers match!”
The issue is that holding a winning ticket and claiming within the permitted period are separate requirements.
Da Ma Cai, for example, requires the original winning ticket together with an identity card or passport, alongside its three-month claim period. Keeping the ticket safe matters, but so does acting in time.
If you find an old ticket, check the operator, draw date and draw number as well as the winning numbers.

Do Not Leave Your Claim Until the Last Day
Once you discover a win, check where to claim and what to bring. Larger prizes may require a visit to a regional office or the operator’s headquarters.
Magnum lists different claim locations depending on the prize category and amount, with appointments required for certain major prizes. Leaving everything until the last day could mean discovering too late that your local outlet cannot handle the claim.
If you have unchecked tickets sitting in a wallet or drawer, take a moment to sort them out. Missing a winning number is disappointing—but finding a winning ticket after its deadline could feel even worse.
