Your 4D numbers match, you have worked out your winnings, and then you reach into your pocket—only to realise your ticket is missing! You search your wallet, drawers and car, but all you have left is a photo on your phone. Can you claim the prize with that photo alone? The answer is no!
According to the operators’ official guidance, a photograph cannot directly replace a valid winning ticket. Da Ma Cai requires the original winning ticket, while Sports Toto states that a lost or stolen winning ticket must be recovered and presented for processing before a claim will be considered.
Magnum has a separate Lost Winning Ticket Plan, but eligibility conditions apply and payments are capped at RM1,000. Taking a photo does not mean you can collect the full prize without your ticket.

A Ticket Photo Does Not Replace the Original
A photograph keeps a record of the ticket’s details. It does not turn a physical ticket into an electronic winning ticket. Even if the numbers, draw details and betting amount are clearly visible, that does not mean you can claim the prize using the photo alone.
Da Ma Cai’s official instructions require winners to present the original winning ticket together with an identity card or passport. A phone photo therefore cannot simply take the original ticket’s place. Source: Da Ma Cai Prize Claim Instructions
Magnum’s official FAQ likewise states that prizes are payable to holders of valid winning tickets. Its separate lost-ticket plan comes with specific conditions and should not be confused with the normal prize claim process. Source: Magnum FAQ
Lost Your Ticket? Recovering the Original Is Key
According to Sports Toto’s official FAQ, a lost or stolen winning ticket must eventually be recovered and submitted for processing before the company will consider a prize claim.
Remembering which numbers you bought, or keeping a photograph of the ticket, does not replace this requirement. Source: Sports Toto FAQ
If you cannot find your ticket, contact the operator’s official customer service promptly. Prepare the purchase location, date and any ticket records you still have for reference. Contacting customer service does not mean your claim has been accepted or that payment is guaranteed.

Magnum’s Lost Winning Ticket Plan Is Capped at RM1,000
Magnum’s Lost Winning Ticket Plan does not mean every lost ticket’s winnings will be paid in full. Its official FAQ states that eligible, approved cases may receive the valid winning ticket’s prize amount or RM1,000, whichever is lower. Source: Magnum Lost Winning Ticket Plan FAQ
Applicants must have become M Premium members before the draw date. The ticket must have been scanned after account verification and before the draw starts at 7pm, and the applicant must be the first person to scan it. The plan’s validity requirements must also be met, including the ticket’s draw date falling within the coverage period. Supporting documents, including a police report and identification, are required. Source: M Premium Terms and Conditions, Section 3.3
An ordinary phone photo does not establish eligibility, and scanning the ticket after discovering a win does not meet the scanning deadline. Even if the missing ticket won a million-ringgit prize, this plan does not provide million-ringgit coverage.
What If the Ticket Has Been Washed or Torn?
A missing ticket and a damaged ticket are different situations. If you still have the ticket but it has been washed, torn or become difficult to read, keep the original and all remaining pieces, and contact the relevant operator for an assessment. Do not throw away the damaged ticket simply because your phone photo looks clearer.
The issuing operator must determine whether the ticket can be verified and processed. Being able to read the numbers does not guarantee a payout. Do not alter or write over the ticket’s details yourself.

Does an App Record Mean You Can Throw Away the Ticket?
That depends on what kind of record you have. Scanning a physical ticket to check results is different from a transaction recorded directly in an official betting account.
For example, Da Ma Cai explains that dmcGO users receive winning notifications and betting history updates on draw nights. If these records do not update properly, users should contact its helpdesk. This is an account-record matter and does not mean all photographed paper tickets can be used to claim prizes. Source: Da Ma Cai FAQ
For physical tickets, a photo can provide a backup record, but the original should still be kept safe until the prize claim is completed. Few things would be more frustrating than matching the winning numbers, only to find you no longer have the required proof.
